Cymbidium Jess Winter 'Kimberley' (Peloric)

Cymbidium Jess Winter 'Kimberley' is a striking peloric form of this well-known hybrid, displaying vivid rose-pink blooms marked with deep crimson spotting across the petals and labellum. Each spike carries a showy display of richly coloured flowers with a distinctive flattened (peloric) lip. This is a very rare and collectable original division — not a mericlone — offered for serious collectors.

Care

  • Light: Bright filtered light; protect from strong summer sun.
  • Water: Keep evenly moist during active growth; reduce watering slightly in winter.
  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate; can tolerate light frost when kept dry.
  • Media: Free-draining cymbidium bark mix or coarse orchid blend.
  • Feeding: Apply balanced orchid fertiliser fortnightly during spring and summer, switching to a bloom booster in late summer.

Key Characteristics

  • Flower size & colour: Medium–large, rose-pink with deep crimson markings and creamy throat.
  • Spike habit: Upright, carrying 10–14 well-spaced blooms.
  • Bloom season (AU): Mid to late winter.
  • Fragrance: Lightly scented.
  • Plant size & habit: Medium plant with broad arching leaves and strong upright spikes.

Background: Registered on 6 April 1995 by N. Grundon. Parentage: Cymbidium Jessie Blakiston × Cymbidium Winter Fair. The ‘Kimberley’ form is a naturally occurring peloric variant, selected for its unique symmetry and intense colouration.
